From Greek Ἅιδης (Haides), derived from ἀϊδής (aides) meaning "unseen". In Greek mythology, Hades was the god of the underworld, a realm that also came to bear his name. His brothers were Zeus and Poseidon, and his wife was Persephone, whom he had abducted.
