New Testament

The New Testament relates the ministry of Jesus and his early followers. It is a collection of writings by different authors, all composed in Koine Greek within a few decades of Jesus's death.

The texts that make up the New Testament are:

• the four gospels by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, which are each a telling of Jesus's life and ministry
• the Book of Acts, which is a continuation of Luke that tells of the deeds of the apostles following Jesus's death
• 21 epistles (letters) written by Saint Paul and others
• the Book of Revelation, an apocalyptic vision of the end times

The New Testament includes a variety of Hebrew, Greek and Roman names. Examples of common English names from the New Testament are:

• Hebrew/Aramaic: Elizabeth, James, John, Mary, Matthew, Simon, Thomas
• Greek: Andrew, Lois, Luke, Peter, Philip, Stephen, Timothy
• Latin: Mark, Paul
